Aphrodite’s Bath

When you come to Cyprus it is impossible not to walk in the footsteps of the goddess of love Aphrodite. Especially if you come together with the person you love. This, of course, refers to the Bath of Aphrodite – a beautiful and romantic place is a perfect background for a declaration of love or marriage proposal. The pool is a small cave in the rock, surrounded by greenery. Here Aphrodite secretly met with her lover Dionysus. Their happiness did not last long. Artemis, finding out about their relationship, kills Dionysus, thus making the goddess in love suffer. Zeus, taking pity on Aphrodite, periodically returns the young man to earth (for 8 months), and then returns him again to the realm of the dead. This myth is often used to explain the long warm season on the island.

The bath is popular not only as a place of lovers. Its water is believed to have rejuvenating properties. Everyone who bathes in it, will forever regain his youth. But since bathing is not possible (it is forbidden), you can wash in a specially designated place.

Another place steeped in romance is Petra Tu Romiu, the birthplace of the beautiful Greek goddess of love. Newlyweds come here to join their family ties by vows of love, and singles – in search of strong feelings and a second half. After all, if you find a pebble in the form of a heart on the sandy beach, in a short time will meet true love. In order to stay young, it is not necessary to take a dip in the bathing suit. You can swim naked on a moonlit night at the Rock of Aphrodite, which is a few meters from the shore. But be very careful – the water is cold, and the waves are high.

Cyprus is famous for its majestic castles and fortresses with historical and cultural significance. They have not only a rich history, but also quite unique views. Often, many palaces are the background for various photo shoots. Therefore it is necessary to appreciate their beauty and significance in person. Larnaca Castle has become the embodiment of Romanesque and Ottoman traditions. Built by the Cypriot King James I de Lusignan, rebuilt in 1625 by the Turks and restored by the British. At one time it was a place where prisoners were held and death sentences were carried out. Since the middle of the 20th century the castle houses the Historical Museum. Kyrenia Fortress is no less interesting. It was founded around the 7th century by the Byzantines and was significantly expanded by the Venetians. We will have the opportunity not only to admire the construction, but also to visit several museums inside the fortress. One of the most interesting is the museum of a shipwreck from the time of Alexander the Great, carrying wine amphorae. There are also an archaeological museum and a museum of torture. The fortress of Famagusta is a great fortification wall, which is 17 meters high and 9 meters wide. The wall is so strong that it has survived earthquakes and artillery bombardments.

Naturally, Cyprus is an abode of beautiful and impressive castles. We will be glad to acquaint you with all the important sights.
